For many years, I did this part-time while working at a full-time corporate job in the entertainment industry. After nearly 18 years in the very high pressured corporate world, that offered little personal gratification, I realized that there was something missing in my life. I needed to do something more meaningful and purposeful, where I could help people.
In 2012 I became a full-time personal trainer and fitness instructor. During this time, I have worked for multiple gyms and senior facilities and have my own personal training business. I do one-on-one personal training, semi-private training, and small and large group fitness classes. Over the years my clients and students have ranged in age from 14 to 92-years-old. I work with clients of any age and fitness level, but I have a passion for working with seniors and those with chronic health conditions, that many trainers try to avoid.
As I began my full-time career in fitness, I soon realized that working with seniors and people with special conditions, and helping them to enjoy healthy, active, and quality lives, has helped fulfill my purpose in life. I often tell them that I’m not there to make them look like a body builder or run a marathon, but instead to help them continue to maintain their independence, perform their functional daily activities, travel, work in the garden, put on their own shoes, play with their grandkids, and enjoy good quality lives without pain!
After performing a thorough assessment, I work with clients on various activities such as: functional fitness, corrective exercises, cardio (including interval) training, core, strength, agility, mobility, balance, gait training, proprioception, flexibility, and range of motion exercises. I emphasize safety, biomechanics, posture, and body alignment in every workout. I adapt or modify my client’s workouts as needed, to accommodate their discomfort or limitations, and realize everyone can feel different each day. So, I am continually re-evaluating and communicating with my clients to best suit their abilities and conditions on any given day.
I treat every client with dignity, kindness and respect. I continually solicit feedback from my clients to make sure we work together as a team, to ensure I am meeting their needs, and to accomplish their goals.
